M-M-M-Mash it!

A mash-up is a combination of two different songs. It usually manifests as the music of one song laid over with the vocals of another, but more complex mashes are possible. These more intricately incorporate the two songs, mixing up elements and sometimes completely rearranging them. It's an art gaining prominence, yet still ruled by a handful of extremely high kids who spend a lot of time on these interwebs. You've probably heard of the superstars (Girl Talk, DJ Danger Mouse, DJ Food, etc.), but here's a round up of a few of the lesser known acts.

1. Mark Starr - Jungle Friend (Kool & the Gang vs Deadmau5)
2. The Hood Internet - Dick Move (Mickey Avalon vs Cansei Ser de Sexy)
3. Mighty Mi - Electric Touch (Justice vs Kanye West, feat. Steve1der)
4. DJ Schmolli - Blocalicious (Bloc Party vs Fergie)

P.S. I'm currently working on a mash-up of Cut Copy's "Far Away" and Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." Fingers crossed.

  1. Hood Internet is pretty big FYI they used to put out a track every day for a while but I guess down to 3 tracks a week now. Their thing is kind of that mashups jumped the shark though

  3. All great stuff. You're putting together a mash-up? Using what program?

  4. Olek: Virtual DJ, which should be impractical and frustrating. Unfortunately, I don't have many other options.
